Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), a special group of not very long chain organic acids that have in common an alpha hydroxy group. The simplest (and the one with the smallest molecule, which is very important when penetrating the skin) is two-carbon glycolic acid.
Glycolic acid, also called fruit acid, since it comes from sugar cane, grape, beet and pineapple, has the main effect of exfoliating the skin. Due to this exfoliating effect, it frees the skin of dead cells and allows creams and treatments to reach the inside of it, thus maximizing their effect, which is why it is often used in treatments against acne and to eliminate surface wrinkles.
It acts on the desquamation processes of the stratum corneum, controlling its proper development and preventing hyperkeratinization.
The main active component of chamomile is Matricaria Recutita, an herbal plant known and used for centuries in folk medicine due to its antiphlogistic and anti-inflammatory effects. It is anti-irritant and soothes sensitive skin.
